Cornflower is a very old favourite, it is not used as often as it could be. The cornflowers are mildly antibiotic and as they maintain their colour as they dry they are useful all year around. Cornflowers enjoy moderately fertile, well drained soil but will tolerate poor soil. Flowers profusely in Spring summer. Collect flowering heads late spring and summer and dry in a warm environment. Cornflower self-seeds freely. A wash made by infusing the petals is comforting for tired eyes and the same infusion is an excellent final rinse for the hair.
