Betel Leaf is a rather beautiful upright climber with simple, heart shaped leaves that have a have a waxy, glossy surface.
The flowers are bisexual or unisexual, in terminal or leaf opposite spikes. Fruit is small, dry, with several rounded bulges.
The Betel Leaf plant has a characteristic pungent odour and is used to treat fever, as an expectorant, toothache, coughing, asthma and pleurisy.
As a food, it makes a great ‘wrap’ for prawns and can be shredded to add to salads and quick stir-fry’s.
Small Potted Cutting.
Some plants are planted seasonally, as their nature demands.
These will therefore only be available while they last, as we try not to plant more than will survive in a condition appropriate to be mailed out with the greatest chance of survival.
If we are out of stock (especially annuals), we will not be planting until the time is right for the particular plant, once again.
This may be up to 8 months, depending on the plant.
Winter plants are somewhat smaller and slow to respond.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot send live plants outside Australia, to Western Australia or Tasmania.
