Previously an heirloom variety, I’m not exactly sure how they sit on the heirloom scale in today’s market.
The colour is more burgundy than purple and unlike the orange varieties, they tend to branch more often in the ground, so if you like your carrots straight then be sure to plant them in very sandy soil.
They hate wet feet and will rot if too wet for too long. The seed is very viable and germination rate is high.
If you like to juice your carrots, these are a great taste surprise. More earthy and less cloying than than the orange varieties.
