Rapeseed is commonly recognized today as Canola which was the term used initially in the testing of Rapeseed for human consumption. (Can.O., L-A.(Canadian Oilseed, Low-Acid)
Rapeseed oil contains unsaturated fats which assist greatly in triglyceride (blood fat levels) and cholesterol lowering. Also, this oil has lower amounts of saturated fats than other oils, in particular, olive oil.
Recently, Austrian scientists discovered that such natural product as rapeseed oil can be also added to the list of cholesterol level lowering products.
It is especially effective for decreasing blood fat and cholesterol levels in those people, who suffered from such conditions from birth.
Rapeseed leaves and stems are also edible as a substitute to bok choy or kale.
